Snack Wraps

Snack Wraps

The McDonald's Snack Wraps are a great and "healthy" alternative to regular McDonald's fares like Big Mac's and QPC's. Always made with a great tasting chicken strip (either crispy or grilled), a choice of 2 great sauces (ranch or chipotle), and an appropriate selection of vegetables and shredded cheese. This menu choice tastes amazing, and doesn't "break the bank." They also only contain around 2 grams of sugar (depending on the kind of sauce) and less than 300 calories, these wraps are a great way to eat at McDonald's without having to watch what you eat for the rest of the day. McDonald's Snack Wraps are also filling, so you don't usually have to buy more than 1 or 2.

The tortillas on McDonald's Snack Wraps are traditional recipe flour tortillas that taste great, and don't rip very easily either. They hold everything together very nicely, and add a nice amount of sweetness, along with a slight floury taste. Made from only basic ingredients like enriched flour, water, shortening, and a few minor ingredients like salt and sugar, these aren't fake or heavily processed tortillas either.
The chicken on the McDonald's Snack Wraps can come either crispy, or grilled. I personally love both, although many people swear by one kind or another. The crispy chicken is similar to a chicken finger- tender, juicy breaded chicken. The grilled chicken is just the way it sounds- a delicious chicken breast strip grilled to just the right temperature to give it a "melt in your mouth" feeling. Either choice is great, although I personally slightly prefer the grilled as it feels a bit lighter.
Lettuce on McDonald's Snack Wraps is usually crisp shredded lettuce, which pairs greatly with the rest of the ingredients.

The cheese is a shredded cheddar + Monterrey Jack blend, which adds a small kick, as well as that cheesy texture that everybody loves.

Lastly is the sauce. In Canada, choices for the sauce on McDonald's Snack Wraps are either creamy ranch, or chipotle. The creamy ranch is a delicious and tangy sauce that goes spectacular with either choice of chicken, as well as the lettuce and cheese. I find that the chipotle sauce goes best with grilled chicken, and although it tastes great, I don't think it goes as well with the rest of the ingredients like the ranch does.

Overall, I would rate these wraps 8.5/10. They are great tasting, and are a tasty and healthy alternative to other McDonald's menu items.

French Fries

French Fries

\
McDonald's french fries are undoubtedly the most commonly ordered thing on the menu. With millions of fries sold every day, people can't get enough of these beautiful potatoes. Having worked at a McDonald's, I would know that making these are sure a pain in the behind, although in the end, it's all worth it. So what does go in to these fries, you ask?

According to McDonald's Canada, all of their fries are sourced from McCain Foods, so you know that they are real fries. After being prepared, they are cut using a precision blade system to make them just the right size. They are then shipped out, and sent to McDonald's restaurants all across Canada. After arriving, they are stored in large freezers, and then put in the fryer. After frying, they are salted, boxed, and put on your tray or into your bag. Then, they are enjoyed and savoured.
I can not think of anything that would be wrong with these marvelous fries. They are always perfectly salted, and fried until just crispy enough (unless, of course, the person who made them is a rookie). Overall, I would rate these delicious golden crisps 9.5/10.

Mighty Angus

Mighty Angus

The Mighty Angus is a relatively new but extremely popular burger at most Canadian McDonald's restaurants. Many have often said it is like a McDonald's version of the Mozza Burger. It features a large angus patty, leaf lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and several other mouth-watering ingredients. So let's get started, beginning with the vegetables.

On the Mighty Angus, there are 3 great vegetables that really lighten the burger up. These include a piece of leaf lettuce, a slice of tomato, and grilled onions. The tomato and grilled onions are not very common on McDonald's burgers, and most McDonald's lettuce comes shredded (The only other burger I can think of right now that does have these ingredients is the Quarter Pounder BLT). That in itself makes this burger unique. I do not believe that using traditional McDonald's ingredients would help this burger at all, as it is spectacular the way it is.

The Might Angus bun is a great tasting toasted sesame seed bun. It also has a seed similar to pepper sprinkled on top, giving it a bit of extra flavour. Generally slightly crunchy on the outside, and cool and light on the inside, this bun goes great with the rest of the ingredients, and it doesn't tend to get soggy very easily, unlike the regular McDonald's buns.
The cheese on the Mighty Angus is the regular McDonald's processed cheese. It does taste very good, although I personally would've liked to see real cheese on this burger. It would just give it that bit of extra "oomph" that the other ingredients can't seem to give. However, the cheese still does add a lot of really good flavour, and the added texture with the slight gooeyness.

Although it may not be obvious when just looking at the Mighty Angus, the taste of 2 different meats becomes extremely apparent after taking a bite. Not only is there a large 100% Canadian Angus beef patty, but there is also delicious bacon bits that add that bacon flavour everybody loves.

Along with bacon pieces, the Mighty Angus also has a smoky barbecue sauce that amps up the flavour of the rest of the more bland ingredients. Slightly sweet, and very savoury, this sauce is a need on the Mighty Angus. It adds a bit of tang that pairs especially well with the tomato and the Angus patty.

Overall, I think the Mighty Angus is a really great burger. It has a strong meaty taste, that really is mighty. I would rate this a solid 8/10.

Big Mac

BIG MAC

The Big Mac. This is a classic example of a McDonald's delicacy. The Notorious Big. Introduced to the pubic in 1967, millions of men, women, and children stop by McDonald's every day to get a taste of this divine burger. Being a double-decker burger, it is unique in many ways. With the Big Mac, the first bite is as good as the last.

The bun of the Big Mac is the one we are all used to seeing on the McDonald's regular menu - a large bun sprinkled with sesame seeds. However, an additional separating bun is placed in the middle of the burger to separate the top and bottom, making it a double-decker. Although not as sweet as an average value picks bun, the large sesame seed bun does still have a considerable amount of sugar added of complement the saltiness and umami of the rest of the burger.

Vegetables on the Big Mac include pickles, lettuce, and onions. Each of them give off their own unique flavours, but still blend together very nicely (although I find the pickles are often overpowering compared to the rest of the ingredients). The onions give off a good taste at the start, although the aftertaste is not very desirable. The lettuce is good, however, and there is a generous amount on both the top and bottom halves.

Unfortunately, there is only one slice of cheese on the entire Big Mac, and it costs around 40 cents to add another slice. The cheese adds a great, gooey texture and taste, leaving you wanting more. McDonald's Canada announced on their "Your Questions" page that the cheese on the Big Mac is processed, and unfortunately, it isn't hard to tell. The cheese does not taste very real. That doesn't stop most people though, as it still tastes good.

The fourth ingredient of the famed Big Mac is the famed Big Mac Sauce. Many people not only add extra sauce to their Big Mac's, but also add it to many other menu items. It's taste is similar to thousand island dressing, and definitely goes well with the rest of the Big Mac. It is just creamy enough to give it a good texture, without being too thick or too runny. Although the actual recipe is a closely guarded secret, McDonald's Canada did release a video with Executive Chef Dan Coudreaut, showing how to make a similar sauce. Here is a link to the video.

The last ingredient is the patty. Or should I say patties, as there are 2 on each Big Mac, and 4 on each Double Big Mac. Perfectly seasoned to melt in your mouth, these patties are the reason that McDonald's is as famous as it is today. They are featured on several McDonald's burgers other than the Big Mac, including the QPC, hamburger, and McDouble. These patties are not dry, but still not too moist or wet. The flavour is very good, on par with a classic homemade patty. And the best part- they are made with 100% real beef. McDonald's Canada can not seem to make it clear enough that their patties are not fake like many people think. As someone who has spent a lot of time working in a McDonald's, I know for a fact that the only things in the patties are beef, a few minor preservatives, and small ingredients to hold the patty together.

Overall, I would rate this burger an 8/10. It is a very good tasting burger, and it is understandable that McDonald's sells more of these than any other burger. There are only a few small things that turned me off, such as the overpowering taste of the pickles. Otherwise, this burger is very tasty and very unique.

Junior Chicken

JUNIOR CHICKEN
This sandwich is an enigma that has marveled people from all tax brackets since 1980. People of all ages and sizes flock to their local McDonald's restaurants to just get a taste of this beautiful tasting sandwich known as a Junior Chicken (Or McChicken for you American readers).
From the sweet bun to the spicy chicken, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this burger. The chicken is perfectly spiced to give you just a small kick, without overdoing it. The bun (which, by the way, is just a regular hamburger bun), is also sweetened just enough to offset the spice and umami from the chicken. Now, lets break this burger down, starting with the bun.

The bun of the junior chicken, although simple, is very tasty. With just enough sugar added to make it slightly sweet, it perfectly complements the other ingredients. Although this may be the most unhealthy aspect of this sandwich, I wouldn't change it in any way.

The second aspect of this glorious sandwich is the lettuce. There isn't much lettuce that is better than the classic McDonald's shredded lettuce (to be honest, I usually add extra lettuce to my JC's). It adds nice texture and moisture to the burger, and really keeps it from being too dry. I find it is also a crucial ingredient as it adds a certain flavour that other vegetables just can't.

The third ingredient we will be talking about is the sauce. Being a slightly spicy mayonnaise, I can't resist but to ask for a bit extra every time I order a junior chicken. Just like the lettuce, it adds just enough moisture to keep the burger from getting dry, without making the sandwich soggy. The mayonnaise also adds a slight tang that is highly desirable. Without the mayo, can you even call a junior chicken a junior chicken?

The fourth and last part of the junior chicken is, of course, the chicken. Crispy on the outside, hot and juicy on the inside. This patty is decadent. Also being slightly spicy, it not only adds texture, but a kick that makes this sandwich all the more irresistible. The junior chicken patty is what takes the prize for this beautiful burger.

Overall, the junior chicken is undoubtedly one of the best - if not the best - burgers at McDonald's. No ingredients in this burger are detrimental to the flavour. However, if you bite into this burger but still feel that something is missing, try adding thai sauce, or a tomato slice. Some people find that these ingredients add an extra tang that the mayonnaise can't quite reach. Overall, I would rate this sandwich 9.5-10 / 10. It is almost perfect.
